Ingredients

1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened

1 ½ cups granulated sugar

1 cup brown sugar, packed

2 large eggs

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

3 cups all-purpose flour

2 teaspoons cream of tartar

1 teaspoon baking soda

½ teaspoon salt

1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

1 tablespoon granulated sugar (for topping)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easier removal later.

Cream Butter and Sugars: In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter using an electric mixer until creamy. Gradually add in the granulated sugar and brown sugar, mixing until the mixture is light and fluffy.

Add Eggs and Vanilla: Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then stir in the vanilla extract until combined.

Combine Dry Ingredients: In another bowl, whisk together the flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, salt, and ground cinnamon until evenly blended.

Mix Wet and Dry Ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until just combined. Be careful not to overmix!

Spread the Batter: Pour the dough into the prepared baking pan, spreading it evenly using a spatula.

Prepare the Cinnamon Sugar Topping: In a small bowl, mix together the tablespoon of granulated sugar and ground cinnamon. Sprinkle the mixture evenly over the top of the dough.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the edges turn a nice golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.

Cool and Slice: Allow the bars to cool in the pan on a wire rack for about 15 minutes. Once slightly cool, lift out using the parchment paper (if used) and cut into squares or bars.

Serve and Enjoy: Enjoy warm or at room temperature, and watch as these soft-baked delights disappear!
