Preheating the oven is an essential step when baking salmon, as it ensures the fish cooks evenly and thoroughly. By allowing the oven to reach the desired temperature before placing the salmon inside, you create an optimal environment for cooking, which helps prevent the fish from becoming dry or overcooked. Typically, you’ll want to preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). This temperature is perfect for achieving that golden, caramelized exterior while keeping the inside moist and flaky.

Ingredients

4 salmon fillets (6 oz each)

1/4 cup honey

1/4 cup Dijon mustard

2 tbsp olive oil

1 tbsp apple cider vinegar

Salt and pepper to taste

6 cups mixed salad greens (e.g., arugula, spinach, romaine)

1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved

1 avocado, sliced

1/2 red onion, thinly sliced

1/3 cup toasted walnuts or pecans (optional)

Fresh lemon wedges for serving

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Make the Honey Mustard Glaze: In a small bowl, whisk together honey, Dijon mustard, olive oil, apple cider vinegar, salt, and pepper until well combined.

Prepare the Salmon: Place the salmon fillets on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush each fillet generously with the honey mustard glaze, reserving some for drizzling later.

Bake the Salmon: Bake the salmon in the preheated oven for about 15-18 minutes or until the salmon flakes easily with a fork. (Cooking time may vary based on thickness.)

Prepare the Salad: While the salmon is baking, in a large salad bowl, combine the mixed greens, cherry tomatoes, sliced avocado, red onion, and walnuts or pecans if using. Toss gently to mix.

Serve the Salad: Once the salmon is done, remove it from the oven and let it rest for a couple of minutes. Place a salmon fillet on each individual salad plate or serve the salmon family-style atop the large salad bowl.

Drizzle and Garnish: Drizzle the remaining honey mustard glaze over the salad and salmon. Serve with lemon wedges on the side for an extra touch of freshness.

Enjoy: Dig in to relish the delightful combination of flavors!
