Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon instant yeast

1 teaspoon sugar

1 teaspoon salt

3/4 cup warm water (approximately 110°F or 43°C)

2 tablespoons olive oil

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon dried Italian herbs (oregano, basil, thyme)

1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Extra olive oil for brushing

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Prepare the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, instant yeast, sugar, and salt. Slowly add the warm water and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms, then knead on a lightly floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.

First Rise: Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Preheat Oven: While the dough is rising, preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Shape the Breadsticks: Once the dough has risen, punch it down and turn it onto a floured surface. Roll it out into a rectangle about 1/2 inch thick. Cut into strips about 1 inch wide.

Prepare the Garlic Mixture: In a small bowl, mix together the minced garlic, dried herbs, red pepper flakes (if using), Parmesan cheese, and a few tablespoons of olive oil to create a garlic paste.

Coat the Breadsticks: Lightly brush each breadstick with olive oil, then spread the garlic mixture evenly over the top of each stick. You can also sprinkle some more Parmesan on top for added flavor.

Second Rise: Arrange the breadsticks on the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each one. Cover with a cloth and let rise for another 20 minutes.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown and crunchy.

Finishing Touches: Remove from the oven and brush with additional olive oil if desired. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley before serving.

Serve: Serve warm with marinara sauce or your favorite dipping sauce alongside for an irresistible appetizer or side!
