Ingredients

12 oz spaghetti

1 cup heavy cream

1 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese

3 tablespoons unsalted butter

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 cup fresh basil leaves, chopped (plus extra for garnish)

Salt and freshly cracked black pepper, to taste

¼ teaspoon nutmeg (optional)

1 tablespoon olive oil

Lemon zest, for garnish

Instructions

Cook the Spaghetti: Start by boiling a large pot of salted water. Add the spaghetti and cook according to the package instructions until al dente. Reserve 1 cup of pasta water, then drain the spaghetti and set aside.

Make the Alfredo Sauce: In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter and add the minced garlic. Sauté for about 1-2 minutes until fragrant, being careful not to burn the garlic.

Add Cream: Pour in the heavy cream and bring to a gentle simmer. Allow to cook for about 3-5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it starts to thicken slightly.

Incorporate Cheese: Reduce the heat to low and slowly whisk in the grated Parmesan cheese, stirring until melted and smooth. If the sauce is too thick, gradually add some reserved pasta water to reach desired consistency.

Mix in Basil: Stir in the chopped basil, salt, pepper, and nutmeg (if using). Taste and adjust seasoning as necessary.

Combine Pasta and Sauce: Add the drained spaghetti to the sauce in the skillet. Toss gently over low heat to coat the spaghetti evenly with the creamy Alfredo sauce. If needed, add more reserved pasta water to thin out the sauce.

Serve: Plate the creamy basil Alfredo spaghetti, drizzling with a bit of olive oil, and garnish with additional chopped basil and lemon zest for an aromatic finish.

Enjoy: Serve immediately while hot and creamy, inviting your loved ones to indulge in this delightful dish.
