Ingredients

1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter

1 cup packed brown sugar (light or dark)

1/2 cup granulated sugar

2 large eggs

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet or butterscotch)

1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional, such as walnuts or pecans)

Instructions

Brown the Butter: In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Continue to cook, stirring frequently, until the butter foams, then turns a golden brown color and develops a nutty aroma (about 5-7 minutes). Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.

Mix Sugars and Eggs: In a large mixing bowl, combine the brown butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar. Use a whisk to mix until well combined. Add the eggs one at a time, whisking well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

Prepare Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

Combine Ingredients: Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined. Avoid overmixing. Gently fold in the chocolate chips and nuts, if using.

Prepare the Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9x13 inch (23x33 cm) baking dish with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal. Lightly grease the parchment paper with cooking spray or butter.

Bake the Blondies: Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and spread it evenly. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the edges are set and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.

Cool and Cut: Allow the blondies to cool in the pan for about 10-15 minutes before lifting them out using the parchment paper. Transfer to a wire rack and let them cool completely before cutting into squares.

Serve and Enjoy: Serve the blondies warm or at room temperature. These are perfect on their own or can be paired with a scoop of vanilla ice cream!
