Caramel Apple Rice Krispie Treats

6 cups Rice Krispies cereal

4 tablespoons unsalted butter

1 package (10 oz) mini marshmallows (or 4 cups of homemade marshmallow fluff)

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 cup diced green apples (about 2 medium apples, Granny Smith is recommended)

1 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)

1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)

Extra caramel for drizzling (optional)

Instructions
 

Prepare the Pan: Grease a 9x13 inch baking pan with non-stick spray or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.

    Melt the Butter: In a large saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Once melted, add the mini marshmallows and stir continuously until they are completely melted and smooth.

      Flavor Addition: Remove the saucepan from heat, and stir in the vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and salt. This will enhance the flavors in your treats.

        Mix in Cereal and Apples: Gradually add the Rice Krispies cereal to the marshmallow mixture, stirring until completely coated. Then, gently fold in the diced green apples and chopped walnuts (if using) until evenly distributed.

          Fold in Caramel: Drizzle in about 3/4 cup of the caramel sauce and gently fold it into the mixture until just combined. It's okay if some caramel swirls are still visible — it adds to the flavor!

            Transfer to Pan: Pour the mixture into the prepared pan. Using a spatula or your hands (lightly greased), press the mixture firmly into an even layer.

              Cool: Allow the mixture to cool at room temperature for about 30 minutes until it sets.

                Slice and Serve: Once set, cut the treats into squares or rectangles. Drizzle with extra caramel over the top if desired for an extra touch of sweetness.
