Ingredients

1 cup fresh blackberries

1/2 cup fresh sage leaves (plus a few extra for garnish)

1 cup granulated sugar

1 cup water (for simple syrup)

1 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice (about 4-6 lemons)

4 cups cold water (for mixing)

Ice cubes

Lemon slices (for garnish)

Instructions

Make the Sage-Blackberry Simple Syrup:

In a small saucepan, combine the blackberries, sage leaves, sugar, and 1 cup of water. Bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally. Cook for about 8-10 minutes, or until the blackberries have broken down and the mixture becomes syrupy. Remove from heat and let it steep for an additional 15 minutes.

      Strain the Syrup:

Using a fine mesh strainer, strain the mixture into a bowl or pitcher, pressing on the solids to extract as much liquid as possible. Discard the solids and set the syrup aside to cool.

          Juice the Lemons:

While the syrup is cooling, juice the lemons until you have 1 cup of fresh lemon juice. You can strain the juice to remove any seeds or pulp for a smoother lemonade if desired.

              Combine the Ingredients:

In a large pitcher, combine the cooled sage-blackberry syrup, the fresh lemon juice, and 4 cups of cold water. Stir well until mixed. Taste and adjust the sweetness or tartness by adding more syrup or water if necessary.

                  Serve:

Fill glasses with ice cubes and pour the blackberry sage lemonade over the ice. Garnish with additional fresh sage leaves and lemon slices for a pop of color and aroma.

                      Enjoy:

Serve immediately and revel in the refreshing taste of your Blackberry Sage Lemonade!
